MEDICARE PART-D PLANNING UNDERWAY

The Medicare Part-D prescription drug open enrollment is October 15 thru December 7. A team of trained volunteers has been assembled to provide a free service for Kay County residents to determine the best prescription drug plan at the lowest possible cost.

Medicare recipients are encouraged to call the Ponca City Senior Center at (580) 763-8051, to make an appointment. Appointments are typically scheduled for one hour but can vary depending on the number of prescription drugs each person has.

This year’s effort will be held at the Pioneer Technology Center, 2101 N. Ash, Ponca City. Dates and times are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday and Friday, October 21-22, and the following week Monday thru Friday, October 25-29. Clients are asked to bring their Medicare card, their current prescription drug plan ID card, all their prescription bottles, and any paperwork received from previous years.

We will use CDC and Pioneer Technology health and safety procedures, and everyone is encouraged to wear a face mask. To maximize social distancing, the large Conference Center in the northwest corner of the building will be divided into four quadrants with one volunteer computer workstation in each quadrant.

In 2021, many ConocoPhillips retirees enrolled in one of two new group advantage plans which includes a prescription drug plan. Therefore, they no longer need a stand-alone drug plan. Major complication could arise if a person with an advantage plan should accidently enroll in a stand-alone original Medicare prescription drug plan. Having said that, if someone with an advantage plan would want to consider changing back to Original Medicare, then our volunteer can help.

This service is sponsored by RSVP of Kay County, the ConocoPhillips Retirees Association, Clark Gerontology Fund, Ponca City Senior Center, United Way of Ponca City, Pioneer Technology Center, and the Ponca City Community Health Foundation. Since the inception of this free program, we have saved area Medicare recipients more than three million dollars by enrolling in the most cost-effective drug plan.
